Senior Embedded Engineer (f/m/d) - Firmware & Embedded Linux

Hamburg
Full-time
Permanent employee

This is recalm

We are recalm – a Hamburg-based company with over seven years’ experience in developing patented noise-cancelling and communication solutions for demanding environments. What began as an ambitious start-up is now an established brand that counts major names in forestry, construction and agricultural machinery among its customers.

Our journey hasn’t always been easy – but that’s exactly what has shaped us. Today, we stand on a solid foundation: as part of a medium-sized group of companies, we are expanding our resources and our international footprint without losing our strength – a well-coordinated team that solves complex problems with smart technology.

Do you want to work in an environment that combines the agility of a tech company with the stability of an established partner? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Your Role

As a Senior Embedded Engineer, you are the technical heart of our product development. You develop the firmware that powers our audio solutions, port it to new platforms and ensure that hardware and software work together seamlessly – from the initial concept through to series production.

Your main responsibilities include:
  • Responsibility for managing hardware and functional components throughout their entire lifecycle: specification, integration, debugging, validation and handover to production.
  • Further development and maintenance of the boot and update system.
  • Porting firmware to new hardware platforms, including adaptation of BSPs and low-level drivers.
  • Implementing customer-specific interfaces and integrating external peripherals/interfaces into the firmware.
  • Developing and expanding test concepts, both for development (automated tests/CI) and for production (production/acceptance testing).
  • On-site technical support for customers, covering commissioning, fault analysis or integration.
  • Documentation of technical solutions and close coordination with hardware development, production and quality management.

What you bring to the table

  • A degree in engineering, electrical engineering, microelectronics or a related field.
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in embedded software development.
  • Circuit and PCB design (practical understanding of electronics design) as well as soldering skills.
  • Very good knowledge of Embedded Linux, Linux build systems (Yocto / Bitbake), C and C++.
  • Experience with various hardware platforms (SoCs, microcontrollers, peripheral integration).
  • Experience with bootloaders and update mechanisms.
  • Experience in test automation, CI for firmware, and hardware-in-the-loop.
  • An independent and solution-oriented approach to work is part of your repertoire. You are also able to improvise in tricky situations.
  • You are highly motivated and a strong team player.
  • You are fluent in German and have a good command of written and spoken English.

What we offer you

Flexibility: We value freedom just as much as you do. That’s why you can organise your working hours in whatever way suits you best.

Team spirit & development: We firmly believe that a supportive and inspiring team is crucial both for our working environment and for your personal growth. That’s why we regularly organise team events and workshops to foster collaboration and development. Join us and grow with us!

Innovation: At recalm, you’ll be working on technology that has to perform where it really counts – inside agricultural and construction machinery, under extreme conditions. Hardware-oriented firmware and digital signal processing work together seamlessly. You’ll design solutions that tangibly improve the lives of people in noisy environments.
